Winthrop Black-crowned Night-Heron Roost
Greater Boston Christmas Bird Count, 12/16/2001

Bob Stymeist, Dan Furbish, and I were doing the Revere/Winthrop section of the Greater Boston CBC when we ran into Geoff Woods at Belle Isle. Geoff told us that he had heard of 3 Black-crowned Night-Herons roosting in three pine trees on a certain street in Winthrop. Although it is hard to imagine a more odd location, we finally found the birds in three spruces in this neighborhood. There are three birds in the tree at right . . . .

Getting a little closer, there's a Night-Heron in the spruce next to the front porch of this house with the Christmas-themed flag. Actually, it turned out that there were NINE Night-Herons in the three spruces.

Hey, who's that down there laughing?

Well, if you're going to be that way about it . . . .
